KIA SPORTAGE MAKES A SPLASH WITH STRONG JULY SALES

Kia UK Limited continues its buoyant performance in new car sales throughout July despite a decline in the wider market, leading to another all-time record market share.

  • According to the latest figures revealed today by the SMMT (Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders), July saw Kia’s new car sales swell to 7,829 registrations, with a record 6.3 per cent monthly market share. Year-to-date, Kia has captured a 5.1 per cent UK market share, building on last month’s news when the brand broke through 5 per cent market share year-to-date for the first time in its 30-year UK history.

The Sportage remains Kia’s top selling model, and was the best-selling compact SUV in the UK in July. It was also the third best-selling UK model in July, with 2,631 sales and remains the best-seller in its segment year-to-date, having accumulated 18,940 sales so far.

Strong sales of Kia’s range of eco cars also continued, with the ever-popular Niro model family residing in third place overall. This includes the fully electric e-Niro, which retains its position as the UK’s second best-selling EV so far this year (842 registrations in July, 6,611 units year-to-date). When combined with sales of the electric Soul EV, Plug-in Hybrid and Hybrid versions of Niro, XCeed and the all-new Sorento, Kia finished July as the third best-selling eco brand in the UK with a 6.7 per cent market share.

Commenting on the result Paul Philpott, President and CEO, Kia UK Limited said “This excellent result for us shows how desirable our products are for UK customers, who want practicality, technology, and leading eco powertrains. It also demonstrates the level of pent up demand there is in the market: demand we’re able to meet with supply from our production plants in Korea and Slovakia, which our dealer partners can then deliver. We’re hopeful that the second part of this year will continue our success, especially when EV6 customer deliveries begin.”
