How long will it take to charge an electric car at a public station?
Public stations can supply energy at very different speeds. Stations offering Alternating Current (AC) charging usually operate at 7kW, which charges a plug-in hybrid vehicle from 0% to 100% in between two and four hours and an electric vehicle in between six and 10 hours.
Direct Current (DC) stations are much faster, with speeds ranging between 50kW and 350kW. It’s important to bear in mind that each Kia model operates up to a certain maximum charging speed so although you’ll be able to use any station you may not be able to take advantage of its full speed.
But remember: You’ll rarely need to charge for that long at a public station. First you’ll rarely start a charge from a completely empty battery. Second, you may not need a full battery to complete your journey. And last, an electric car’s battery takes as long to charge from 0% to 80% as it does from 80% to 100%. If you are focused on completing a journey as fast as possible, you’ll want to make sure you only charge up to 80% capacity.
Two simple tariffs
Kia Charge Easy: Perfect if you only occasionally use public car charging points. It gives you the freedom to access Kia Charge's rapidly expanding network with no on-going fees.
Kia Charge Plus: Made for you if you use electric public car charging stations on a regular basis. It gives you a 15% discount compared to the Easy tariff on networks other than bp pulse, Pod Point and IONITY. It also means you won't have to pay a session fee in the UK.
You can complement both tariffs with our IONITY and bp pulse bolt-on subscriptions.

Two optional subscriptions
IONITY - Power bolt-on subscription
IONITY’s network of ultra-fast 350kW electric car charging stations is dotted along the UK and Europe’s major motorways.
Kia Charge already gives you seamless access to this network but with our £6.90-per-month quarterly bolt-on subscription, you pay only £0.59 per kWh in the UK or between €0..50 and €0.64 in most other European countries. That's only £27 for a 10%-80% charge of Kia Niro EV. You only need to charge from 10% to 80% three times a month to make up for the monthly fee!
bp pulse - bp pulse bolt-on subscription
Kia Charge already gives you access to the bp pulse network but with our bolt-on bp pulse subscription and for just £7.85 per month, you benefit from significantly reduced kWh prices across Kia Charge’s largest individual charging network.

Get to 80% fast
When using DC charging, Kia electric cars’ charging speeds slow down once the battery reaches 80% state of charge to help preserve the battery’s longevity.
Bear this in mind and plan accordingly to help save time on longer journeys.
No access to Home Charging?
If you rely solely on public charging it is worth researching operators like Source London, Ubitricity, or Connected Kerb as these providers specifically offer convenient near-home charging for drivers without a driveway or off-street parking.
Charging providers are continuously improving and adding to their charging locations and offer value for charging terms for local residents.
